This is a book club based in Lexington, Kentucky.

These ladies are are teachers, librarians, lawyers-turned-therapists, wine-sellers turned publicists, waitresses, waitresses turned masseuses, researchers, writers, mothers, partners, daughters, and most importantly, readers.

This book club is not academic coursework, or professional advancement. Admittedly sometimes, one of us doesn’t finish the book. Sometimes we are 12 in number. Sometimes we are 4 in number. The beauty of the Lexington Ladies Lit is this: regardless of whether we missed the last book club, or couldn’t finish the book, we discuss books, ideas, and our lives. Our mutual presence is its own communion around the dining table.

We meet (mostly) monthly. We stay flexible for holidays, or life events for members of the book club. We keep in touch between book clubs with a group chat. We think this is why we’ve survived/thrived this long.

For now, this website serves to document our book lists for those outside the Lexington area. In the future, we have plans to build upon our collective skills to sell book selections, publish reviews, publish local authors, and more. We believe women are capable of anything, if armed with great friends, great food, great wine, and a great book.

We are partnering with Castle of Air books. Operating under the imprint of BirkenStacks we will release our first debut novel, a 2022 selection from a Lexington author. More details to come.
